Chicago-based vocalist Jackie Allen and
classically trained bass player and composer, Hans Sturm, have put
together a 72 minute daring, serious, senuous and often intense
musical experience. Irrespective of the number of listenings, Landscapes-Bass
Meets Voice will leave most breathless.
Track Listing: Blue Got Up, Shadows of Invisible Trees, The Garden
Behind Glass Walls, Patterns, Nicaragua: Songs in a Garden, Quasimodal,
Cruel Contradiction, O-Zone, Who Knows When Silence Begins?
This is a tour de force in the art of
the duo. Empathy between Ms. Reynolds and bassist Hans Sturm is
striking.

Spring Thaw, Rain's End, Bill's Tango, Sue's Saudi Blues, Back Home
Rolf Sturm, brother Hans, and percussionist
Glen Velez lay out unparalleled guitar-driven music that's just
a little too progressive to ever earn them a cover photo on "Guitar
Player". The band isn't outside as in Cecil Taylor outside,
but their stuff still reaches further than probably anything you've
heard from six strings prior to now. Definitely something to check
out.
Track Listing: Attitude Control, Easy Time, Whdja?, 3X19, Prairie
Music, Key Chains, Applesause, Chant for Duo: Synthesiser and Bass
The Joan Wildman Trio is a formidable
outfit. Wildman, a Professor of Music at the University of Wisconsin,
teaches courses in jazz improvisation, music theory, and synthesizer
programming. Her mercurial keyboard skills and compositional prowess
are well-served by her long standing bandmates, bassist Hans Sturm,
who draws out an extraordinarily beautiful tone from all registers
of his instrument, and drummer Dane Richeson, who commands his kit
and an array of percussion with polyrhythmic virtuosity.
