Hans served as Associate Producer and contributed two compositions, Hot Stone Soup and Coal Grey Eyes.
The Music of Joseph Dubiel (Mimmi Fulmer): The Centaur release by Mimmi Fulmer. Hans performed on At Baia - a work that features the Pro Arte String Quartet and an extended bass solo passage at the close of the work.
Love is Blue (Jackie Allen): Produced by Rob Mathes (Tony Bennett, Rod Stewart), the A440 release features John Moulder (guitar), Laurence Hobgood (piano), Hans (bass), Dane Richeson (drums and percussion) with guests Frank Glover (clarinet). Landscapes - Bass Meets Voice (Jackie Allen/Hans Sturm): The Red Mark duo album that was produced by the legendary Frank Proto after hearing the couple perform at the Edinburgh Bass Festival. The CD was recorded live in Cincinnati in front of a studio audience. Hans wrote and arranged much of the material including the five movement Landscapes Suite, Black Water, and Dream Milonga.
Blue Got Up (Jane Reynolds/Hans Sturm): Another wonderful duo collaboration, this time with Madison pianist Jane Reynolds. We split the tunes - she writes tremendous music - lyric, free, rhythmic - beautiful!
Back Home (The Sturm Brothers): What a pleasure to play with one's brother! Rolf is a smoking guitarist and we're joined by percussion master Glen Velez. Each of us contributed half the tunes - out on Water Street Music.
Inside Out (Joan Wildman Trio): The classic Joan Wildman release featuring Hans (bass) and Dane Richeson (percussion). Her original compositions are each a gem and present the smallest window into her vast range of influences and her equally vast repertoire.
Appassionata (David Young): The stellar release from the young, marvelously talented and precocious trumpeter, David Young. With Kurt Elling's current drummer, Kobe Watkins, Chicago pianist Dan Cray, and Eddie Hendeson's sax mate, Dennis Winslett.
So In Love - with Jazz Guitar (Dave Baney): One of the great unsung heros of jazz guitar, Dave Baney was a major figure on the Chicago jazz scene and influenced many of the city's finest musicians. With some of Chicago's finest including Art Davis (trumpet) and Mike Kocour (piano).
48 Motives (Scott Fields): The first of the large jazz orchestra scores by Fields. Features an amazing collection of new music/avant garde musicians and improvisors including Myra Melford (piano), Joseph Jarman (sax), Matt Turner (cello), Vincent Davis and Geoff Brady (percussion), John Padden and Hans (bass). New Century Suite (Michael Miles): A banjo virtuoso, Michael Miles wrote a suite of movements inspired by years of working out the unaccompanied suites of Bach on his chosen instrument. Hans supplies a bass contrapunctus to the gymnastics of the banjo.
Blackberry Winter - Songs of Alec Wilder (Bob Levy): Wilder's songs were of an era - melodic, witty, humorous, touching. Brought to life with Bob Levy's trumpet and cornet accompanied by John Harmon (piano), Hans (bass), and Dane Richeson (percussion). At the session Bob insisted on Hans playing Where Do You Go as an arco feature.
